This picture is not brilliant but the ant was dragging a fly across the floor, very busy he was. I don't like ants in my house but I do find them fascinating, how they work together, how organised they all are and how much they can carry!

They are amazing creatures, but I have ants nests everywhere around the house and in the garden. As much as I don't want to kill them, they are becoming a problem.

Anyone have any suggestions how I could get rid of them?

You know what I do? Feed the blighters - I don't mind them in the garden so long as they stay away from the house - so, if they venture into the house, I stick some cat food outside and they take that instead of coming in the house in their armies to steal from the cat bowl!

I read somewhere that ants like the sweet excretion that aphids leave behind, so the ants will protect the aphids from harm!

I also have aphids on some of my roses and other plants around the garden and the ants nests are usually around the bottom of the plant.

So now I have double trouble!! 

Any advise on these problems would be great,

Could be an old wives tales but my Granny always used to tell me to use soapy water and pour over the roses, this won't kill the roses but make the stems slippery meaning the ants/aphids cnanot hold on or walk up and down the stems.

I do this all the time after I have finished mopping, I tip the bucket over my roses.
