I have not been able to find parsnip seeds anywhere, do you know where I can buy them locally, when is the best time to plant them?

Parsnip seeds are best sourced in England or other Northern Europe countries or over the internet at sites such as tozersseds.com, thompson & morgan, as the plant is more readily grown in cooler climates.

Here in Spain, you can try sowing the seeds directly in well prepared ground at the first rains of autumn to harvest in the spring. Before sowing the seeds, soak them for 24 hours to speed up their germination.

Hope that helps and good luck, it is not something I have grown yet as my husband does not like most root vegetables.

We do have lots of fruits growing though:
Strawberries
Raspberries
Blackberries
Tomatoes

We also have Peppers and Garlic - we will be planting more soon such as lettuces and melons

Hi Rose, ref.your query concerning parsnips.   This sort of root veg. is not really grown in the southern regions.   The soil is too warm and never gets a frosty breakdown.   They are grown in the northern regions of spain,but really and truly they are not generally eaten by the Spanish here in the south.   Possibly get some sent over from the UK, but there again depends on where your garden is regarding soil, how much sun it gets most of the year etc.   Let us know.  Liz

Morrissons in Gib normally have seeds, probably parsnips
