The feathery, mid green, upper leaves are spicy and pungent; the flat lower leaves have a slightly unpleasant smell. Coriander leaves can br frozen but are best used fresh in curries, stews and salads. The lower leaves make decorative garnishes. Sprays of white flowers produce seeds that have a sweet, spicy, orangey flavour when ripe. Add them to sweet and savoury dishes, including chutneys.
Height spread: 45x25 cm (18x10 in)
Cultivation: Plant in rich, light soil, in sun or partial shade and away from FENNEL!!!
Propogation: Sow seed outdoors in spring
Pests and Diseases: Coriander is usually trouble free

I have been trying to grow coriander for years, from seed and plant, but they never seem to do a lot and then die.
Is it possible I could be over-watering??

Coriander thrives in damp, cool springs and hot, dry summers.
Most herbs are not fussy about the pH of the soil but Coriander does need well-drained soil and plenty of compost.
Coriander develops quickly so plant where you want it to grow but try not to move it, Coriander does not respond well to transplanting.
Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep. When plants emerge, thin them to 4 inches apart and mulch to conserve moisture and deter weeds. Keep a close eye on young plants to make sure they don't dry out, but once established, coriander (Mediterranean native that it is) needs little water.
Harvest entire plants when they're about 6 inches high if you want only the leaves.
Wait until the seeds start to ripen, in late summer or early autumn, if they're your prime target. Cut plants off at the base and hang them upside down in paper bags to finish drying.
Hope that helps mate

A new tip, G
I was speaking to a lady in JKs the other week who uses coriander to cover old bits of ground she hates, she gets tons of seeds and just throws them out, after a couple of years now she has a lovely little patch which is purely coriander and she says it comes up before the weeds do so they get little chance to grow, we are going to try this on various bits of land we have that we don´t use

Hi - don´t know if I´m allowed to do this - and feel slightly unethical doing so, but we sell a variety of herb seeds from our online shop, here in Spain (if an online shop can ever be "here" anywhere .. ). If anyone wants anything not listed, ask, we might be able to put it in our next order. Basically I got fed up not being able to find things that I wanted (like sweet basil instead of just plain, so we bulk bought, hence the side-line). The shop is under "garden supplies" at www.thegreenman.es.

Thanks Simone & Suzy for your support .. and yes I did feel a bit cheeky putting the link, but you never know someone might find it helpful, so thanks for letting it stay. I think this site looks great (& so do your blogs) and look forward to reading posts here. I love the fact its kinda girl orientated too, it seems to have a real community spirit (because of this?) which surely must be what forums are about, instead of sniping, which many of our local ones are .. so here´s hoping we all have a productive and beautiful summer (& with all that rain this winter, maybe we will have)
