For the past couple of weeks, we have been reluctantly sharing our swimming pool with Fred. Sometimes he swims with us (surprisingly he isn't at all bothered by the chlorine - but then neither are we!); at nights he hides away in the undergrowth nearby. Unfortunately for our peace and sanity, he's a very noisy frog; the usual "ribbick, ribbick" simply isn't in his vocabulary, and he calls woefully for a mate all night with a piercing voice like a warbling bird.

Yesterday, we decided Fred would be better off in another place. At the very bottom of our hill is a large, open-topped, shallow, green deposito once used by the local farmer. In it live any number of other frogs. So we coaxed Fred into the pool net, tied a piece of plywood over the top and drove him down to his new abode. Let's hope he finds his soulmate there, and can concentrate his energy on other matters  Wink

Hi Alec,

I know how you feel, my pond is full of frogs and they get very noisy at night calling out to one another! That is great that you moved him to his new home, I'm sure he will be better off with his own kind! Before long there will be lots of little Fred's hopping about! Wink

Here is a photo of one of the frogs in my pond Cheesy

Hi CG,

Snap! He could be the twin of mine!

I'm sure you are right about the tadpoles. As the old rhyme begins, "a frog he would a-wooing go..." Wink

As it happened, removing Fred didn't mean that we got the quiet night we expected, because of the sudden heavy shower. As we haven't yet cured all the leaks, this meant getting out the bucket and mop. That's another repair job which must get promoted to a higher place in our "to-do" list.

Alec.

LOL, made me chuckle that did and I noticed you named him too! Now you are as sad as we are Wink

I fished a frog out of my pool yesterday he was doing lengths, we tend to have frogs in our pool as a guide that more chlorine is required, they don't seem to hop in when the chlorine level is high. They do make me laugh though, how they can just float in a pool of water and look dead!

We have a river at the bottom of our garden on the other side of the track so we tend to go for afternoon walks with frogs or toads in a net to set them free and hope they don't return!
