When we took over our neglected garden, I found difficulty in deciding what the trees were. In particular, all the citrus trees looked much the same during the winter.

However, I soon discovered the easy way to identify a lemon tree: its leaves smell exactly the same as its fruit - delicious! This does not apply to oranges, grapefruit etc.

Then I started wondering - how many other fruit trees (or bushes) have leaves with the same smell as the fruit? I could only think of one - the blackcurrant, which is very pronounced. Can anyone think of any others?

Alec.

Hola Alec

Some orange tree leaves do smell of oranges, I had a very sweet orange tree in my terrace garden a few years back, it sadly died but if I rubbed the leaves on that and smelt my fingers, I could identify the sweet orange smell.

I will do the same with my blackberry, raspberry, fig, pear, pomegranate, apple, grapefruit, plum and grapes and see what I can decify with them

Ooo great I love a sniff test!
