Where we live in the country we have our own water well, so no we dont pay for it. And yes it comes through the pipes to the house from the well. The water comes from the surrounding mountains, so as long as we have water from there we should never run out! Smiley

I don't think you will have a problem finding your house as there are so many places now that have been reduced to sell. Good buyers market  Smiley

Hi Jonas,

The weather has been good, but where we are in the country it has been very cold in the mornings and evenings. We have had ice on the cars in the morning, but then later it warms up to about 13c. It is warmer on the coast though, normally by 5 or 6 degrees!!

Yes i suggest you get yourself a good laywer when you buy your house, so they can check the legallities etc..

All the best

Yes we live 30 Mins from the coast, inland in the mountains, thats probably why we get such cold weather in the winter time. But its not aways that cold! In the summer it is really hot, in July this year it was 40 +!!!

In the 14 years we have lived here the weather has deffinatly changed, the summers are hotter and the winters are colder. But come April its a lovely heat and the same in September.

Hope I havent put you off coming to live in Spain!!!!  Smiley

Bye for now

Hola Jonas

Gina is right in saying you need to find yourself a good lawyer when you get to Spain or use your own one. Lawyers cost more money when buying a house, this much is true, however, the money they can save you, should things go wrong, could be endless.

There are many scams surrounding property in spain (unfortunately) and there have been many expats who have been ripped off in the process, tread carefully, do your research and proceed wisely Smiley

We use Martinez Echevarria Perez Ferrero in Puerto Banus, our lawyer's name is Juan de la Cruz Lopez, if in doubt, give them a call, they did everything for us and made sure it was all above board and legal, meaning you get paperwork from the Junta and not the town hall Wink

Hola Jonas

I believe we paid 2% to the lawyers, that was of the total amount borrowed from the bank Smiley

Hola Jonas

Just worked out the figures and we actually paid 1% of the purchase price, lawyers can charge up to 2%

Sorry about that!

Hi Jonas,

It will really depend on where your house is located, if you are going to be using mains water then you will have to pay, as it is on a water meter. But if you are going to be in the country (campo) then usually you will have your own water well, which is free!

Do you know where abouts you are moving to yet?

CG Gina

Regarding the cost of the well water, I agree that it's free if you use a bucket and rope. However, our well (like most others) uses an electric pump. I have fitted a separate electricity meter to this, as I share the water with two neighbours and need to know the cost. In our case (with an economical three-phase pump) it works out at 1.9 units per cubic metre - not an enormous cost, but not free either!

Also, if you have a well (which is registered and legal), bear in mind that you will have been given a maximum amount which you can draw each year. Our pump's water meter has never been checked to my knowledge, but with increasing water problems in Spain you never know when they will start doing so.

Alec.

I forgot about the water pump! Of course we have one of those so the water gets pumped into the house, but i dont think our well is on a meter. It all depends on the water table under ground, if it dries up then we dont have any water! I will have to look into that to see if it is metered or not.

Thanks Alec
