Hola
Is anyone here swapping seeds with other members?
If you are, please tell us about it and how you are getting on, if this picks up then we could start plant and seed swapping and get members together once a month to swap plants/seeds over a coffee and get to know one another.
If there is enough interest that is
Thanks
Simone and Gina

I would certainly be interested - not that I have many at present, but it would make good sense to swap any half-used packets in the spring as well as nay which we may collect ourselves. Also we could share varieties which people have to buy from the UK as they are virtually unknown here, like Gardener's Delight tomatoes (some of which I gave to a neighbouring Spanish grower - who knows, they may even make an appearance on the Spanish market some day!).
As for get-togethers, that sounds fun but I'm not sure how practical it is as I imagine we're spread over quite an area - I, for instance, live in the camp behind Algarrobo and hardly ever travel as far east as Malaga!
At the moment I have some pomegranate seeds and two sorts of palms. If anyone is interested please send a PM and I'll send free for a sae.
Alec

Hola Alec I agree it could be a little awkward to meet every month, however, we could all meet one day and make the extra effort to meet new people, if we had enough people up for it then we could arrange a hotel for a night or something and bring partners. I am always prepared to travel to network, it is what I do for a living I almost went to the USA this year just to meet new people and go to a conference (unfortunately situations beyond my control stopped that), travelling to the other side of Malaga would not be an issue for me We can start swapping seeds via post for now and once the forum has grown we can discuss other options for the group. Simone PS Would you like to become a moderator Alec?

Hola all
I have some aquilegia seeds which I would be willing to part with. I brought them from my UK garden and they have grown okay over here and self seeded very well. I cannot guarantee what colour they will be as they are not the hybrid multi colour type. So far they have varied from deep blue, purple, light pink and burgundy but as you know they will multiply to provide all sorts of colours and shapes of flowers. The foilage lasts all year here which was a surprise as usually it had died away and gone underground by winter. I have just tidied them up in February and they have lots of new growth coming through. I was interested to see that there were aquilegias in the General Life garden at the Alhambra, looked a bit pathetic as it was September and wonder if they are widely grown in Spain, although when I gave my neighbour some plants she treated them as something special.
Also have some garlic chive seeds. These grow just the same as ordinary chives, perhaps a bit more delicate so better in a pot, they have lovely white flowers and needless to say the leave taste of garlic, super chopped up in stews, on salads, etc. Can be a bit stronger tasting even than garlic, so be warned.
Send me your address for posting and I will get some off to you, quantities will be restricted obviously according to demand and weight for postage. Cheers Suzy

Hi Simone I don't have osteopermum seeds but could maybe find some cuttings that have rooted and try sending them in a little soil, they may survive the postal system. The only seeds I have at the moment are aquilegia and garlic chives which I can send you. Your selection sounds interesting, I would love another try at foxgloves. I brought loads of seeds from my UK garden but not one germinated. Some poppy seeds would be nice too and some of the mallow. My postbox address is:
Let me know your details and I will post some of mine back to you. Also anyone else who is interested in receiving a few seeds. Thanks also to Laska for the offer of seeds from the UK. I do have a few packets of English stuff to try that my Aunty brought over for me. Alas our weather is still terrible, torrential rain again last night and howling gales today so have not been able to sow anything yet this year which is a bind. I have at least usually got my radishes started by now. Come on sunshine, where are you? Cheers Suzy

Hola Suzy I have for starters removed your postal address from the main board, please send this as a private message to members, would hate your to start getting spam in the post! LOL I will try some garlic chives in that case, never grown them before and also never tried Aquilegia so there is always a first time for everything! I am off to the bank tomorrow so while I am at it I will go to the post office also, I will send you my address as a PM We have a week of rain ahead of us again which is a pain as I want my roof sorted and my chicken coop finished so I can get some chickens finally but until the rain stops we are a little buggered I am usually in t-shirts and linens in March, although the nights are never warm especially but at least the days used to be warm! Thanks again and I am sooo excited! Simone

Hi Simone Thanks for that, what a dozy dummy, do'oooh! I think it's cos we have a post box miles away I don't feel threatened but you are so right. Look forward to receiving the seeds and of course will post your garlic chives and aquilegias as soon as I get your details. I can only give you the instructions for growing them that my experience dictates!! Hey, we have had sun for two days, Chexs, my husband, strimmed the stuff under the almonds today, it almost resembles our "lawn" in the UK now [ha ha], taking care not to chop down some very attractive flowers, which I think may be orchids of some type and I as the labourer raked up. How unfair all this exercise doesn't result in perfect abs. Had a desultory hoe of the weeds but the gound is still too claggy, so had to give up.
I cannot wait to start putting in seeds, have you tried night scented stock? It is so perfect here for the summer nights when we sit out, the scent is beautiful. They are, of course, an annual back in the UK but I let them self seed last year and they have actually produced new plants which have all turned out purple flowered and have bloomed all winter, unbelievably. The "babies" don't have a very strong smell though so I wonder if this has something to do with them being hybrids and not producing very well on their own. Does anyone know?
Well, the football is on tonight so my boys are glued to that. I am going to spend a night trawling the internet for new recipes.
Cheers Suzy
