On our blog we had the question:
When in Spain this year we found a flower called dimorphateca, what is another name for it?

I wondered if this was another name for The Namaqualand or African daisy

Does anyone know?

Thanks

Simone

Hi Simone
I have looked it up in my RHS plant book and you are right, the other name for it is African Daisy.  Apparently they are closely related to Osteospermum and from the photo of Dimorphotheca pluvialis it would be hard to tell the difference between them, white petals with violet centre disc.  This species is also known as Rain Daisy or Weather Prophet although it doesn't say why, perhaps they close up when it's about to rain!!
Cheers
Suzy
