Hola

I had 2 very healthy plants last year, 1 chilli and 1 cayenne pepper plant, just recently they have started to look really wilted, as if they are dying, we have removed all the chilli and the peppers growing and we are now hoping for the best.

Have we done something wrong or is it right that they should droop so much, is it the cold weather, will they grow back again?

Thanks for any help

Simone

hi there,

thanks for letting me know about the site!  the chillis and peppers will grow all year round in their natural habitat but are usually just treated as annuals to be composted and replaced when they give up.  i have seen some that keep going for years but normally somewhere sheltered such as against a south facing wall.  mine though have had enough of the snow and just gone to the compost heap!

Hola and welcome

Thanks for coming to see us and thanks so much for the tips there on my plants. I am happier in the knowledge that they are doing what they should.

Shame they don't keep going for ages but I will let them die and replace this Spring, we have certainly had our monies worth! hehe

Look forward to chatting with you more and thanks for stopping by, it is nice to meet new people who can help us with our gardens

I just realised you said snow! LOL

Where are you exactly, I saw on your blog that you said southern Catalunya and I also read that you are self sufficient? Wow I am so jealous, my husband and I are working towards growing more food but with full time we are finding it hard, but enjoyable.

We are learning as we go on, hence the need for the forum Smiley

We are currently growing
brocolli
cauliflowers
cabbage
spring onion
onion
strawberries (plants dormant)
raspberries
blackberries
figs
oranges
lemons
nectarines
herbs
tomatoes
grapefruits
passionfruit
olives

All of the above is relatively new and not producing enough yet (and when I say growing, in the right seasons of course), we moved to the country November 2007 from a terrace garden to 2,700 square metres of land that we have been cultivating ever since, we started our vegetable patch off as soon as we could, had lots of success with tomatoes and my herbs are gorgeous, but I am still not where I want to be yet - - being a newbie to cultivating a garden!

It is all good fun though and we love it, as the weeks go by we learn more and more, I cannot wait for Spring so I can perfect what I started learning last year Smiley

Good luck with the move Jonas.

We picked a place at random, knowing we wanted to be 30mins to an hour from the sea and closer to a river and mountains.  Even though we'd never been to this part of Spain before the place was right.  We're in the Catalan mountains on the border with Valencia and Aragon which is fab for us.

Narrow down your search by finding somewhere with the basics you're after and then come on down and rent somewhere you can use as a base to explore from.

Good luck! Grin
