Let's Get it Straight

It would appear that we have acquired a manky white (brown lol) cat, we have seen him around a few times but we had always chased him out, or he ran away scared of us, last weekend with the storms, the poor thing, I think, decided to just give up on life and stopped running away from us, just sat there watching and crying (my heart fell out!)

We decided yesterday that we should feed him, he is staying in the bar and we are fine with that, don't want him near the house right now, it is riddled with fleas, ticks, scabs, it stinks to high heaven, dirty ears, dirty fur, in a bad way basically.

I bought Frontline this morning and I have dabbed that on him and just now I have left a worming tablet in his food (hope he eats it), I have not seen his poo so I don't know how bad the insides are ------ yet!

He is eating well and is very friendly (for a tom cat), he does a lot of crying though. Poor thing! One thing I have noticed though, he pokes his tongue out a lot, not sure why, perhaps he has something wrong with his teeth or mouth?

He does follow me now though and obviously knows where the food is Wink

I am looking for advice, shall I throw him in the bath and clean him up or wait for his strength to build first, I have managed to wash him a little with a flannel but I am concerned about my 3, at the moment they are staying well away, although Dotty (the little black female) is getting more and more curious as the days roll by - I don't want her to catch anything, we don't have the money to spend on another cat (when we didn't want another pet) but without funding the care he can't stay either - aaaaahhhhhhh!

I have called SOS in Coín who supposedly will pay half the vet's costs for his care, not managed to get through to anyone though.

I can't possibly throw him out now, he will die, however, what choice do I have, feed him up and then kick him out I guess?

If anyone here knows of somewhere I can take him for his jabs and a quick look over, let me know.

I don't mkind him living here but looking at it, I think a fair bit of money needs spending before he is right (and €200 right now would be too much!).

I have a picture and when I get round to it I will post that

Just started to rain here so I am a bit wet as I have been out in the garden cleaning the manky cat's ears! NICE

I must be stark raving madddddddd

The image was taken this morning after we got the stray in the bath and gave him a wash, I was surprised at how he coped with that, must have felt nice!

LOL doesn't he just poor little bugger

I just grabbed him, stuck him in the tub, poured anti tick/flea shampoo on him and got on with it, he wasn't amused but he let me do it, he is really friendly, but he is just manky right now

Chuffy has not bothered unless he comes near the house and then the shouting starts, Dotty is very interested but again has growled (Dotty growled!!!!) at him if he came close and Lolly, well she is just Lolly isn't she, been doing her Kate Moss running if he moves LOL

He doesn't come to the house at all, just stays in the bar or if the sun comes out he sits on the swing by the pool

Poor thing has been shivering all day so he has a hot water bottle, which probably needs topping up about now, I probably shouldn't have washed him while the weather was like this but I wanted to get him feeling better about himself and I didn't like touching him because he was smelling so bad, I am trying to encourage him to clean himself (had to do this with Dotty when we first got her too)

I then brought him into the lounge wrapped in a towel and dried him a little and then set to work with tweezers to remove the ticks, he must feel better for it surely?

Good day down on the coast babes?

We just rented the house today until 1st week in April! Dead Chuffed, except I have to clean it on Sunday!

I have several cats living in our front garden and in the lane outside our house, they were abandoned by someone renting the house next door and the new tenant has dogs who have chased them out of the garden. They won´t come inside our gates as our 5 dogs would terrorise them. At present they just tease the dogs safely from the other side of the gates.

There are 3 males and 1 female and we had no idea of their age whatsoever but the female is tiny and the least friendly of all to the point where she will only come to about a metre away and no closer. They were very skinny when they first appeared and I have been feeding them since.

I have seen this week that the males have been mating with the little female and I think that she really needs to be caught and spayed.

Does anyone know which of the local charities will do this for a small donation, or have the best price ? I don't mind paying something as I don´t want the cat population to get out of control. If anyone has a good contact I would be really keen to get this done asap! Catching her will be the fun part!

There is a vets in Coin that will spae her for nothing. They do work for one of the charities, cant remember which one, but Simone took that stray cat there and they were very good.

The vet is just on the roundabout before Mercadona, big black frontage.

Hope you get her done soon, you dont need anymore animals eh!

Gayle, take the female, NOW, to the vet and tell them SOS sent you, I called SOS before I took "ugly" and spoke with the lady who runs it, because we were planning on keeping "ugly" she sent us down there for a check up and they pay for it. Cats only stop mating a few weeks in a year so they will just keep on going so your best bet is to get hold of Kelly I think her name is of SOS and see what she says, but like I say the rules are, if you are planning on keeping the cat then they will pay for the spaying Smiley

Good luck and it is the best thing to do otherwise the situation just keeps on getting worse

I think I will be paying a visit to the vets pronto, Gina told me which one. Louiza's young male now has the hots for her too. Will ask her if I can borrow her catbox. I gave mine away to a friend who adopted 2 stray kittens.

Yeah, you would be wise to, cats never stop mating, well they have a few week break during the middle of their season but apart from that they keep on banging out the babies!

If you don´t source a box, let me know, you can borrow one of mine.

We have another stray this winter in the bar, we have seen him for a few months now - he has been peeing in our house!

This one is not manky like "blondie" was last year and out cats seem to like him, they don´t shout and scream at this cat like they do others I have seen hanging around, he looks a little like Chuffy but smaller, he is also black and white Smiley

He will not let me get near him but who knows after time he may become part and parcel of the Icough clan, however, for the moment it appears we have 4 cats but he lives in the bar on a lovely bed!

Let us know when you have completed your task with the latest addition Smiley
