I live in a white village in Cadiz, and although I have no "garden" I have a large roof terrace and lots of balconies and windowsills.  Everything I grow has to be wind-tolerant and enjoy full sun!  I started off last year with four enormous rectangular containers, 120 cm x 50 cm, and planted jasmine, bougainvillea, mandevilla and plumbago - all designed to cover a trellis which we put up on the terrace to offer a bit of shelter and privacy.  I filled the gaps with various lantanas and geraniums.  This spring, the second year of growth, they gave me a fantastic display, but only the bougies are in flower now (September).   There are some photos of the garden here: [link has been removed out due to spam]

I tried growing various things in smaller pots with mixed success.  Some blew over in the wind (we get the Levante full-on).  Others dried out and died when I forgot to water them two days running.  Tomatoes and peppers were a waste of time - and they are so cheap to buy, they cost more in compost and plant food.   I had a good salad leaf crop in March-April but this all stopped growing as soon as it got hot.

I grew lots of herbs from seed when I arrived here last June but the only ones that got beyond initial germination were the chives, which are now ready to divide.  It was just too warm for them.  This year I sowed them in February and got a good crop of coriander, basil, parsley, oregano and chervil.  They do much better in a large 60m square container than in individual small pots, I found.

Right, that's me - now I will go and read the rest of this forum and get to know you other Campo Girls!

Hola

Glad you found us also! Was it on Google.co.uk or .com you found us?

I have been to Cadiz for the feria and loved it, I like the beach line also, I could definitely live there!

As for everything you planted, I also adore most of that! I have a gorgeous Plumbago and it is still flowering now, up my fence and along a small border fence I added for character.

Unfortunately you link has been removed, we get spammers here (as do most forums) so I changed the limits so we are not bombarded with their rubbish, until you get to a certain level you cannot post links, however, I do not mind if you email me with your link and I will post for you fruity(at)campo-girls.com

If you are forgetting to water plants, have you considered irrigation, we have 2,700 square metres and I need to rely on irrigation otherwise it will ALL die Wink

Shame you had no joy with tomatoes mine have gone mental, I will take images tonight for you to see, last week we picked 420 in one go! The Spag Bol was delicious though, we wizzed the ones that were going off Smiley

I also get great peppers, I grow them every year. I grow various herbs in the ground, I have a small patch that is doing nothing round the back of our house Smiley

Glad they went well for you, herbs are delicious when you grow yourself Smiley

Great to hear from you, another good campo girl to add to the mix

Take care

Simone
