I always keep an eye on what my neighbouring market gardeners around Algarrobo are doing as it's a useful reminder of what work is needed in my own garden. At the moment they are busy sowing and planting their next crops at the moment, both inside the greenhouses (tomatoes, peppers etc for a Christmas harvest) and outside (especially potatoes). They may not be totally organic but they have certainly been rotavating in tons of rotted goat manure first!

It's interesting to see that the weather conditions are just right at the moment, and it's easy to forget that many crops really don't thrive when it's too hot. In fact some seeds won't even germinate, no matter how well they are watered, especially lettuces.

I once bought a soil thermometer which came with a useful chart of optimum sowing temperatures. I have long since lost the thermometer (and the chart), but I have now worked out that the temperature in the pool very closely follows the soil temperature!

Hola Alec

Gina and I have been talking about planting potatoes also, I was going to try and do them in a box this year but I am already running out of time, too much work to do and weekends packed with social events so I eventually run out of time to get planting. I think this Sunday we will do some clearing, preparing for potatoes and other vegetables

I will see what seeds I have left Smiley

My melons are still producing and the peppers are also good despite being outside, I too am contemplating buying a greenhouse, anyone know where I should shop for one here?

Thanks

Simone
