Calling gardening junkies in southern andalucia - hola.
I have just returned to uk from a few days at my house in Ronda and a few days before leaving I placed a message on the site hoping for a little advice. Now that I have been, i am even more in need of some help and now that I have located the right place to locate my plea - hoping for great things :-)
Thanks to Campogirl for directing me here.
I would like to know what sort of Climbers I can and should sew which are most likely to flourish high up in the sierra nieves. I finished a terrace in November which now has a large steel pergola and I would like to dress the pergola with climbers and vines. But what sort do you all think I should go for and does anyone know of a reputable garden centre they can direct me to?
I am a little worried that the wrong sort of climber may attract the wasps - we have three children. Are my worries misplaced?
I have 15,000 sq metres most of which is olives but there is a small vineyard as well and gona ned some help with that too and last year i disaestrously tried to grow veg in my two huertas - both about 75 sq metres and hopefulof some tps for these this years as well.
Our focus has been developing the house and now thats done we would like to give some attention to what right now looks like parque natural!! :-)
Hopefully there is a gardener out there who's been thru the same and willing to lend a hand?
How have you all survived the terrible rains?
Muchasimos gracias.
hasta pronto

Hola
Thanks for your post, I have some suggestions for you but it helps to know where these plants are to be placed, for example:
North and East facing walls
South and West facing walls
Moist Shade
Dry Sunny sites
Cold Windy sites
Moist or boggy sites
What type of soil do you have, we have a lot of clay here in Monda so I always need to provide good top soil!
Climbers to consider:
Actindia
Akebia
Celastus
Fallopia
Hedera
Hydrangea
Jasminum
Lathyrus
Lonicera
Muehlenbeckia
Parthenocissus
Schizophragma
If you like, on the blog I will add details about each and every climber listed here so you can read further about them?
Hope this helps, I have a Plumbago as well which I have not listed above, I have this climbing up a fence and along a smaller fence for coverage and after 2 years it is now amazing, they give great cover quickly and smell wonderful!
I also favour the Jasmin, I have 2 of these climbers, one placed on my back fence and 1 which I am training into a bush shape, along a fence, growing into the passionfruits, ooo there is another consideration!
Speak soon
