Hi everyone,

Another newbie - both to the forum and generally to green fingers! Currently I class myself as an eager, but not very good gardener - I tried my best with a mini herb garden and managed to keep the chives alive and almost the rosemary. The basil however appeared to wither before it even had even given it a chance. I wouldn't know which are the best herbs to attempt to begin with living in one of the driest parts of Spain (I'm not known for my regular watering skills...) - Any advice on where to start again with a new herb garden?

Thanks!

Alana :-)

Hola Alana

Welcome to our little green fingered section Smiley

We have a massive section on herbs, I have linked here for you
Herbs for the kitchen

Thats section also includes information on each herb.

Are you wanting to do pots?

Tip: Never let herbs flower if you want to eat

I am always growing Parsley, Marjoram, Chives, Oregano and Basil. Basil is especially difficult for me to keep alive!

The link below is to a post about Basil Smiley
Basil

Get a fairly large pot (with holes in the bottom), add stones for drainage, add soil mixed with some compost.

You can place herbs fairly close together in a pot, I would usually add, Parsley, Rosemary, Oregano, Lemon Thyme and one other that you fancy, probably Basil.

I have attached a photo of one I made for Jason Christmas 2008 Smiley

Hope this helps, are you growing from pots only? You could grow tomatoes, they are dead easy and so rewarding Smiley

Simone
PS Good to have you here x
