Was deadheading my violas this morning when this chap popped up and made me jump.  He looks like a cross between a praying mantis and a stick insect, very well camouflaged.  I expect he has some unpronouncable latin name but if anyone knows what he is called I would be interested to know.

Awww I love these, that is a praying mantis, alien like creatures, excellent for eating aphids and little bugs off your roses and other plants, this little baby is great for small pest control Smiley

Having said that his head looks different to what I would expect from a praying mantis, so perhaps I am wrong but it looks like he is definitely from the same family

He has amused us all day, sitting there, every time we walk past his "antennae?" pop up and his head swivels to look at us.  I must say the violas are free of any bugs, probably cos he is munching them.
