Hi everyone,
We have just reached the point in each year where the wasps visiting our pool for a drink are becoming a real nuisance, and they also seem determined to visit our barbecues.
Usually their nests are quite small affairs, hanging from the eaves on a stalk, and no bigger than a walnut. These are much easier to deal with than the big papery nests we are accustomed to in the UK. I find that a good spraying with a general insecticide aerosol, at dusk, followed by a quick retreat, will usually put paid to them without too much risk. In the UK, on the other hand, I used to buy a special long-range wasp nest destroyer, which covered the nest with messy foam from a range of a meter away.
My apologies to any vespophiles in the forum. I realise that no creature is completely without merit, and that wasps do a great job in consuming caterpillars. Sadly, I have received too many stings over the years to agree that their benefits outweigh their bad 'points' (ouch!).

Alec.
