How wonderful to see these guys at close quarters.  Have tried to photo them, the result is rubbish cos they flit too quickly but here is an attempt.   I gather they are seen in the south of England but from "us up North" tis like an alien being.....

yes, wonderful aren´t they .. and huge too for a moth .. we did a wildflower meadow in the Cotswolds which attracted one and at first i was convinced i´d discovered a new bird/butterfly hybrid! Huh

How lucky were you to live in the Cotswolds!  One of our favourite places, we used to make the pilgrimage to Stow in the Wold twice a year, staying at the White Hart.  If we were rich we ate at the Stow Lodge with all the Americans, ha ha.  One of my great memories is Studley with all the snakesheads coming up in the meadows, gorgeous.  How I strived to reproduce that in my garden in Cheshire!!..  Which we did eventually, about half a dozen fritillaris (hope I spelt that right) dotted about the garden.  I´m looking at the shade cast by my holm oak and wondering, would they grow- - - --?
