I am always one for experimentation. So I took the top from a pineapple, cleaned off the fruit gently and let it dry for 24 hours. I then soaked it in water for three days ro encourage rooting and planted it in a pot of potting compost. I kept the compost damp by not over watering and in a couple of weeks new growth was evident.

So now a couple of months later the leaf growth is about about 15cm and looking very healthy.

Has anyone grown one? What sort of soil does it favour? I believe it would be happy in sandy soil; with of course good drainage. Any tips would be welcome.

I have heard the same things about pineapples and will be trying next year.  I'm told you can put them directly onto sandy soil and water sparsely. I will be following this post to see how you progress Terry.  Cool
