Pears make beautiful trees, with their lovely blossom in spring to their colourful fruit in autumn

Does anyone here grow pears, I have one tree but it is not doing much, I have it in a bad area of my garden, so it is my own fault!

They are good fruit, however, because they tolerate low winter temperatures and you can buy many varieties that suit most soils and sites. The ideal position for a pear tree is a sunny, sheltered site, away from any frost pockets (I know we don“t have much frost here in Monda or Coin but in Granada you do). Perfect soil would be pH 6.5, poorly drained or shallow soils should be improved or avoided.

I am going to move my tree this spring and see how we get on, I would love to have our own pears Smiley

I have a pear tree, and it did very well this year, so it can be done!

Our inherited pear tree also did well this year, probably all the winter rain, however it is situated by the almonds in quite poor soil so I do add feed, spread the log ashes around it and water copiously once the it starts flowering.  Also cover with a net when the fruit starts forming otherwise the birds eat the majority.
